North Charleston Neighborhoods turn out to Stomp out Crime

On Tuesday, August 6th citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses and local officials in over 10,000 communities and military bases worldwide will join forces to mark the 30th Annual National Night Out.

Locally, the North Charleston Police Department, in conjunction with national sponsor Target Stores, and communities throughout the city take a stand against crime by holding various walks, cookouts and crime prevention projects.

At 6:00 p.m.  Police Chief Eddie Driggers, along with Mayor Keith Summey and Councilmember Rhonda Jerome and residents of the Pepperhill community, will kick off a neighborhood cookout and crime prevention education activities at the Pepperhill Community Center on Brandywine Road.

Similar events will occur simultaneously in neighborhoods throughout the city to include:  Forest Hills I, Charleston Farms, North Charleston Old Village, Woodlands, Coosaw Commons and Indigo on the Ashley  to name a few.  Citizens are asked to turn on their porch lights as a sign of unity and to let the criminals know that the City of North Charleston is organized and fighting back.

Flowertown Players close out North Charleston Dinner Theatre season on March 22

The Flowertown Players of Summerville will present Forever Plaid, the off-Broadway musical revue written by Stuart Ross, as part of the North Charleston Dinner Theatre Series on Friday, March 22, 2013.

This deliciously goofy revue centers on The Plaids, a wholesome quartet of well harmonized guys that just want to sing. Tragically these four young, eager male performers were killed in a car crash on the way to their first big concert. As the play opens they have been miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. With nostalgic hits from the 1950’s, The Plaids’ close harmony, zealous choreography, and boyish squabbles will put a song in your heart.

The Flowertown Players staged this production at the historic James F. Dean Theatre in downtown Summerville at end of January and have adapted it for the North Charleston Dinner Theatre stage. Enjoy the final performance of the 2012/13 Dinner Theatre Series with this delightful new rendition of the off-Broadway show. The evening’s meal, catered by Embassy Suites, will feature a boneless pork chop entrée with soy, maple, and red chili marinade and sweet charred corn relish.

Forever Plaid will be presented at the Charleston Area Convention Center Ballroom (adjacent to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center) at 5001 Coliseum Drive in North Charleston. The ballroom doors open at 7:00pm for dinner. Tickets are $40 per person. Group discounts are available. Ticket price includes dinner, play, and gratuity. Tickets for just the performance are available for $15. Parking is free. A cash bar will be available.

To purchase tickets or to request more information, contact Pam Smith at 843-740-5847 or email culturalarts@northcharleston.org. Montague Terrace at North Charleston Coliseum to open Fall 2011

The North Charleston Coliseum’s latest expansion, the Montague Terrace, will open this fall. Montague Terrace expands the North Charleston Coliseum by 7,400 square feet and will provide a new experience for patrons, as it will be used as a food court for Coliseum events, a special event space for private receptions, and also as an entertainment venue for small concerts, theater performances, and comedy shows.

For private gatherings, such as corporate receptions and weddings, Montague Terrace provides a state-of-the-art venue with LED lighting, full production capabilities, and accents of modern décor.  The space can host up to 740 people for a reception and up to 340 people for a seated banquet.

Montague Terrace is also a unique venue for entertainment events, as shows will be presented in a cabaret theatre setting that will include seating at round tables for four guests with full food and beverage service.

During large concerts and hockey games at the Coliseum, Montague Terrace will serve as a gathering area for patrons.  All concessions will be offered out of Montague Terrace, and various bands will be featured on the Montague Terrace stage before Coliseum shows and during intermissions.

“We are all anxiously awaiting the opening of Montague Terrace,” says North Charleston Coliseum General Manager, Dave Holscher, “as it will enable us to deliver a superior experience for our patrons on a number of levels.  Not only does Montague Terrace allow us to host smaller entertainment show, such as Glorious Gershwin, which will be Montague Terrace’s premiere performance this September, but it also allows us to host private functions, therefore serving the community in a way we have not been able to in the past.”

With the addition of Montague Terrace, the North Charleston Coliseum’s exclusive caterer, Centerplate Catering, will expand its catering menu to offer a wider variety of high-quality food and beverage items.

Montague Terrace is being built for LEED Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, making it one of the largest eco-friendly event venues in the Charleston Area.  Once completed, Montague Terrace, as well as Centerplate Catering, will continue to operate in an eco-friendly manner.
