Visual Artists and Fine Craft Artisans Sought for Annual Co-Op Gallery in North Charleston


Applications are now being accepted from visual artists and fine craft artisans for participation in The Meeting Place Art and Fine Craft Co-Op, an annual, temporary artist-run gallery coordinated by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department and presented as a component of the North Charleston Arts Festival. The Co-Op is dedicated to presenting many artists of varied backgrounds working in a diverse array of media and representing a full range of styles. Eligible applicants include South Carolina artists, ages 18 and up, creating original fine art, fine crafts, photography, pottery, jewelry, fiber art, glass, sculpture, and more. There is no fee to apply. Applications can be found online at NorthCharlestonArtsFest.com/apply. Deadline for applications is Monday, March 3, 2014.

The Meeting Place Art and Fine Craft Co-Op Gallery is located at 1077 East Montague Avenue in the Olde Village area of North Charleston. Operating hours are Fridays and Saturdays, April 4 through May 31, 2014, and are overseen by participating artists. A free, public reception will be held at the gallery during the North Charleston Arts Festival Art Walk on Wednesday, May 7, from 5:00-8:00pm.

The 2014 North Charleston Arts Festival is scheduled for May 2-10. The nine-day celebration of arts and culture provides over 30,000 thousand residents and visitors with an array of performances, exhibitions, and activities. The Main Event, held the first weekend in May, offers free admission and parking to over 40 performances on four themed stage stages; General Audience, Cultural Heritage, Youth Entertainment, and Bands. Other Main Event activities include judged art and photography shows, the SC Palmetto Hands Juried Fine Craft Exhibit, a gem & mineral show, an antique show, children's activities, art and craft booths, and a food courtyard. The Arts Festival continues with over sixty events and exhibitions throughout the week at various locations. An array of free and ticketed offerings include street dances, concerts, theater presentations, film screenings, an art walk, children’s programs, workshops and demonstrations, a National Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition, and much more. The festival concludes with the Grand Finale at North Charleston Riverfront Park featuring performances by professional groups and Tri-county schools, children's activities, and fireworks over the Cooper River.

Annual Art & Fine Craft CoOp Gallery in North Charleston set to open April 5



The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department will host its annual Art and Fine Craft CoOp Gallery and Sale at the Meeting Place each Friday and Saturday from April 5 through June 1, 2013. The temporary, artist-run gallery is presented as a component of the 2013 North Charleston Arts Festival, taking place May 3-11.

The Art & Fine Craft CoOp Gallery is dedicated to presenting works by Lowcountry artists of varied backgrounds in a diverse array of media and styles, from representational to contemporary. All pieces on display will be available for sale. Artwork ranges from original oils, watercolors, and mixed media, to photography, prints, note cards, and more. Participating artists include Sherri Bardsley, Olga Bixby, Andrea Cochran-Pastel, Jan Dalton, Daryle Halbert, James Christopher Hill, Angela Hiott, Muriel Lanciault, Barbara B. Sawyer, Pat Singletary, and Francina Smalls-Joyner. The artists will host a free public reception at The Meeting Place on Wednesday, May 8, from 5:00-8:00pm during the North Charleston Arts Festival Art Walk.

The Meeting Place is located at 1077 East Montague Avenue in the revitalized Olde Village area of North Charleston. Parking is free. CoOp gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 11:00am-7:00pm. Art & Fine Craft CoOp Gallery Opening in North Charleston

North Charleston Arts Festival

The City of North Charleston will host its annual Spring Art and Fine Craft CoOp Gallery and Sale at the Meeting Place each Friday and Saturday from April 6 through May 26.

The annual pop-up gallery and temporary artist cooperative is dedicated to presenting works by many Lowcountry artists of varied backgrounds in a diverse array of media and styles, from representational to contemporary, in both two and three dimensions. All pieces on display will be available for sale. Artwork ranges from original oils, watercolors, and mixed media, to photography, fused glass, prints, note cards, and more.

Participating artist include Dorothy Allston Rogers, Sherri Bardsley, James Black, Jack Devlin, Kate Fortney, Jeffrey Hair, Michael Kaynard, Muriel Lanciault, Keller Lee, Karol-Ann Skelly, Francina Smalls-Joyner, Denise Spates, and Vordai. 

The artists will host a free public reception on Wednesday, May 9, from 5:00-8:00pm during the annual Art Walk in the Olde Village area of North Charleston. Both the Art Walk and the Art and Fine Craft CoOp are components of the 2012 North Charleston Arts Festival, held May 4-12.
